DEFINING MOMENT

Nick Garcia was sent off at the 27th minute by referee Baldomero Toledo.  But with ten men, Toronto still pressed the issue. At the 38th minute, Reds had cause for a penalty call but the referee played the advantage, which saw Julian de Guzman stopped by Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen from close range.

Chad Barrett put a cross inside the 18-yard box for De Rosario and he was hauled down in the area. Toledo could have called the penalty right there, instead he allowed Toronto a chance to score from open play, giving Nielsen the advantage on the angled shot from de Guzman.

PITCH BATTLES

Toronto was winning everything in the early going and it seemed that the attack led by Barrett, De Rosario and Jacob Peterson was on course for a breakthrough against an under pressure Kansas City backline.

That was until Toronto lost the momentum at the other end of the pitch. Teal Bunbury and Kei Kamara were always going to give the Reds a worry with their quickness. But they were able to get something more from Toronto, a sending off near the half hour mark to Garcia when the defender missed on a 50/50 ball. He inadvertently struck the leg of Kamara. Toledo then issued an incredible 40th red card in 96 matches.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Although Toledo registered a brace (of red cards) by sending off Craig Rocastle for a second bookable offense at the 57th minute (41 in 96), it was a hat-trick of saves from KC keeper Jimmy Nielsen that ranks him just ahead of energetic Toronto defender Dan Gargan for MOTM.

At the eighth minute the Danish keeper blocked a Peterson shot from point blank with his head. He later kicked clear a Barrett pass at the goal mouth, before making that stop on de Guzman which might not have been, had the referee awarded the penalty instead of a play advantage.

NEXT MATCH

Saturday, June 26 v. Los Angeles
  MLS - Week 13

7:30 PM (Rogers Sportsnet)

GAME NOTES:

There are a lot of uncertainties around this match.

Taking place the first weekend after the league mandated World Cup break, Los Angeles could be without key attacking players Landon Donovan and Edson buddle, while David Beckham continues to nurse a torn ACL.

But LA has already proven to be tough without their star players. They beat Columbus in Week 10 without the services of any of the big three.
